I will be attending one of the training sessions for the national project of craft club - Millennium Gallery, Sheffield on Thursday 29th September 2011. Luckily I found out about this before it was fully booked!
Train tickets are booked and I'm excited to meet some new crafty people.
Then I just need to contact a local school, museum etc to set up a Leeds Craft Club. This is something that I can do without this training but it's free and it means I can feedback all of the activities to a network of crafters and trainers.

Working directly with volunteer organizations, such as the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) we help skilled volunteers make the transition to working in schools by employing experienced sector professionals to deliver quality training and support. Our experts also collaborate on teaching resources and practical ‘tips’ for our website.
So by sharing a little of your time and expertise you can help us get schools crafting once again – jolly nice of you, we think!
Being a volunteer:
Signing up to be a workshop volunteer means you will be able to go into schools and run clubs, passing on your craft skills.
Sometimes volunteers need a little help doing this, so one of our Trainers will be able to assist and help to upskill the local area.
Craft Club uses ‘cascade learning’ to ensure the highest quality craft clubs and workshops are being delivered in UK schools. This means that we will train our trainers in teaching techniques and solid classroom management skills. They will pass these skills onto their local group of volunteers, who will then establish the clubs.
Benefits of participating
- Spend time doing something you love
- Gain some excellent teaching experience
- Get others passionate about your favourite craft, using your creativity to inspire great projects
- Have buckets of fun working with children and young people from your local community
* If you are interested in becoming a trainer, let us know! We will put you on our list and notify you when the next training days will take place. Email us at knit1@craftclub.org.uk !
